Housing Assistance

Underground Railroad offers housing programs based on availability and eligibility. They can be adapted to survivor needs as they prepare to move into a place of their own. In addition to housing, assistance may include:

  • 911 phones
  • Hopeline Program cell phones
  • Stalking Kits
  • Clothing and personal care items
  • Basic household items
  • Utility payment assistance
  • Vouchers to Underground Railroad Resale

Transitional Housing

The Transitional Housing program is available to survivors who have moved past crisis and are ready to live on their own. The Transitional Housing program includes the following:

  • Up to two year stay
  • Residence in a URR owned property, or
  • Vouchers to rent from a community landlord
  • Continued advocacy and support from URR staff

Permanent Supportive Housing

The Permanent Supportive Housing program is available to survivors with disabilities. The Permanent Supportive Housing program includes the following:

  • Extended stay with no exact end-time
  • Residence in a URR owned property
  • Continued advocacy and support from URR staff

Rapid Rehousing Program

The Rapid Rehousing program is available to survivors who have moved past crisis and are ready to live on their own. It is also available to families who do not need emergency shelter, but need assistance moving into safe housing.The Rapid Rehousing program includes the following:

  • Up to 6 month stay
  • Subsidized housing with a community landlord
  • Continued advocacy and support from URR staff
